Dive Cameras are No Longer Just for Professional Divers Any More

If you like to scuba dive or go snorkelling chances are you would like to be able to take pictures of everything you see. To do this you need one of the new digital dive cameras that are so much better than those cheap disposable cameras you can buy in most stores. These cheap cameras might take an OK picture in shallow water but are totally useless in deeper water. If you really want to capture the moment and save it for another day you need a top quality camera.

There dive cameras you can buy today are capable of taking pictures that are of sufficient quality that many marine biologists use them to take detailed pictures of the new marine life for further study. The detail is so good that scientists can use the pictures to identify new species and separate them from the ones that are already known. Professional underwater photographers use a diving camera to take the pictures that they sell for a living.

All this is very well but chances are you are just someone who wants to be able to take underwater pictures using and underwater camera that will not break and will give you a picture that is crystal clear and captures all of the colours you see with your eyes. In times gone by you could spend a fortune trying to find a dive camera as they were a highly specialized piece of equipment made just for the professional dive photographer.

The original camera for diving was a standard camera that was mounted in a watertight case designed to handle the increasing water pressure of a dive. The case made diving cameras big and bulky and not something that the average diver would even consider taking on a dive.

Thanks to modern technology the size of the underwater digital camera has come down to something far more useable. In fact the average dive camera is not much bigger than the average large digital camera. It is still encased in a watertight case but thanks to the smaller size of the camera the case can be much smaller.

Take Into Consideration

Not only is the case smaller but you can take the camera out of the case and use it as a regular land camera. This way you do not have to buy two cameras, when one will do everything you need to do. When you are looking for a dive camera you need to look for the same features as you would when buying any other kind of digital camera. The more mega pixels a camera has the better the quality of the picture it takes.

You should also look for the kind of features you will need on land things like on board editing and the ability to hold large memory cards. A good strong flash can be useful for those low light shots both in and out of the water. You need to look at how far down you will be able to take your dive camera, the average depth is somewhere in the 100-120 feet range if you need to go deeper you may have to buy a specialized underwater camera that can be somewhat more expensive.

You do not have to spend a fortune to buy a dive camera or an underwater video camera, there are many different models that are capable of taking decent pictures for around £ 25 or less depending on what features you want. No longer are quality underwater pictures the realm of marine biologists and professional photographers as you can now afford to buy one for the same price as a standard land camera that takes excellent pictures.
